I am a registered psychologist with many decades of experience supporting adults through a wide range of emotional and relational challenges. I aim to offer a calm, private space where people can slow down, reflect and feel genuinely heard.
Sandy Hungerford is a fully registered Counselling Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) bringing more than 40 years of clinical practice to her work with individuals and couples in Newcastle and across the Hunter region.
While qualifications and professional training are important, the heart of Sandy’s work lies in creating a thoughtful and respectful space where people can take a moment to reflect and make sense of their experiences.
Sandy is fully registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), which confirms she meets the nationally required standards for professional training, continuing education, clinical supervision and ethical practice.
People can verify her current registration status at any time through the publicly accessible AHPRA register at: www.ahpra.gov.au

Sandy has completed foundational training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and continues to develop this approach through ongoing supervision and training.
EMDR-informed approaches may be integrated into therapy when working with trauma-related experiences, always at a pace that feels safe and manageable for each client.

Sandy has extensive training and clinical experience in Emotionally Focused Therapy. EFT focuses on understanding and working with the emotional patterns that shape relationships and influence personal wellbeing.
Professional learning remains an important part of Sandy’s work. She regularly engages with current research, professional development, and clinical supervision to ensure her practice remains thoughtful, evidence-informed and aligned with best-practice standards.
